Nice weekend

12 05 2008

Saturday:

Went in the evening to see Ironman . Brilliant fun.  Robert Downey, Jr. was fab.  Had soft serve ice cream after.  Very nice evening out.

Sunday:

Made a “puff pancake” for breakfast.  It is prepared in a cast iron skillet in the oven.  It is much like a giant popover.  We eat it with powdered sugar and apple butter.  Grilled casing franks for lunch and et them along with baked beans and black pepper crisps.   Drove up to see Mum and my older brother was there with his wife as well.  Enjoyed the visit quite a bit.  Stayed at Mum’s for a supper of veg pizza.  Another nice day.

Hope your weekend was as nice as ours was.

Ripped off and mislead!

6 05 2008

Sunday, Dennis and I went on a road trip. No, it wasn’t anything like the one in “Animal House.” We had lunch in a cute downtown diner in a college town and then drove into the city to an outdoor shopping mall. That style of mall has gained some popularity here. It resembles a village full of shoppes but is really just a shopping mall or plaza, as they used to say. At any rate, we decided to get Starbucks iced coffees. First of all, look at the sleeve they provide for your cup. See the bit I’ve circled? It is an out and out, total lie! The sleeve was not hot in the slightest either before or during use. This is the bit where I felt ripped off… Dennis is quite skinny, and so ordered a regular iced coffee which comes with whipped whitness on top. I, being a bit squidgy, ordered the “light version” which is made with low fat milk and no whipped fluffiness. When mine was finished, the coffee whipping person discovered she had made mine a regular as well. She then held it aloft and said, “Does anybody want this? It’s free!” That is how the chap in front of me received a free coffee, compliments of me. Hmmm… Where’s MY free coffee? Whilst waiting, Dennis noticed that the iced coffee frappalator was encased in a clear plastic box. I explained to him it is to keep frappalated, coffee coated, ice chunks from flying into the waiting crowd and putting out anybody’s eye. Makes sense, innit? In any case, the coffees were good and some stranger benefited from my “diet.” After we visited a shoe store and Dennis tried on a large variety of trainers, a pair were chosen and purchased. We drove into another part of the city and shopped for antipasti, bread and wine. We came home with 5 bottles of various whites, a bagguette, chaivare, tabouille salad, mixed olives, and strawberries. We also stocked up a bit on couscous.

Over all we had a wonderful, fine day out. Hope your Sunday was as good as ours.

Loony bin

1 05 2008

I think I live in a loony bin, or perhaps I should. Every day and night, for as long as I can remember, I have had a song in my head. Not the same song, thankfully, but some song or other. If I wake up during the night, there is a song running through my brain. The music will often invade my dreams as well. When I wake in the morning, the song is still there. Usually after I get up and turn on TV or the radio it will finally leave me. I am grateful for that. It makes me sometimes feel a bit loony.

Speaking of loony, The Evil Fred has stolen and eaten the ends off of Andy’s ear plugs. George Bofur, whilst rolling around on a dining room chair, rolled right off and onto the floor with an embarrassing thud. He seemed mortified. Neither would eat a dab of tuna I presented to them.  Both of them are banging around the place in chase. But why are they running? What are they running from?

I think I’m bound for the loony bin. Want to come along?

I’m famous! Or is it infamous?

A letter sent to the phone company…

25 04 2008

Dear Mr. Cook:

We have attempted on several occasions to reach you by telephone to discuss payment of your telephone account–which was recently disconnected.”

What?  I can’t hear you! Duh!

Change just IS!

24 04 2008

Yeah, I know. I’ve changed my blog design again. Changing stuff feeds my need to tweak, to fiddle, to re-do. I think I like the way this one looks. What do you think? At least now James’ comment about the Tardis makes sense, but now Tasmaniac’s comment about mowing and raking does not. Sorry mates. Just go with it. All will be well. Somebody I used to know said, “Change is not good or bad. Change just IS.”

I got all perklempt at work today. I was asked to do a computer trick that I know. It upset me because we have two computer “teks”, both there, but I was asked for MY help. I sort of went off on a tangent about how it isn’t my job and the “teks” should do it, and how I don’t get paid the extra money they are paid for being the “teks.” I wound up doing the “trick” to help out but it still made me angry. One of the “teks” knows far less than I do but has been there longer. For awhile, we all thought she was leaving, and I would have been her heir-apparent. Oh well… At least this way I don’t get blamed for problems, can pass the buck, and complain LOUDLY!

Tootle-pip! Off we go then!

Earth Day 2008

22 04 2008

(Mother Goose & Grimm by: Mike Peters)

Yes, it’s Earth Day. In honour of the day I am wearing about 75% cotton. The percentage would be higher but my shoes and stretchy undergarments skew the average. Outer clothing, sans shoes, I would score a solid 95% OK, moving on… to really help celebrate I should ride my bicycle to work. I only live 2 miles from library. BUT… it is nearly dark when I come home. I suppose if I were squashed by a passing vehicle on my ride home, I would be mostly biodegradable, except, of course for the shoes and stretchy underwear… I’ll not ride the bike. I will drive the Honda Civic SI though, which gets over 30 MPG. I’ve already turned off all the lights around the house because it is 9:30 A.M. and the sun is quite bright today. We will probably have the air conditioning on at library today, so we get minus points for that bit. Last night before closing, I made a display of books about how to live “green” and “green up your lifestyle.” For good measure I also displayed a book about living Organically. We just recently acquired new books on the subject of “green” living. That is good since previous to that we had precious few. I personally recycle everything I can in the area of the USA we live in. The four of us who live here usually only produce a single garbage bin (average sized) of trash per week. I think that is pretty good. We reuse everything we can. I’m thinking of purchasing canvas shopping bags for the grocery shopping. I’m really trying. Are you?
